A foster-based humane society.
Columbus Humane Society is a nonprofit organization supported by volunteers and tax-deductible donations. Rather than operating a traditional shelter facility, we rely on volunteer foster homes to care for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens while permanent homes are found.
This foster-based approach gives animals the opportunity to receive individual attention in a home environment and helps us learn more about their personalities and needs before adoption.
That companion animals are provided a safe, loving, and permanent home.
Helping animals and strengthening our community.
Advocacy
Speak up for vulnerable animals and support humane treatment and responsible care.
Population control
Encourage spay and neuter as an important part of reducing unwanted litters and pet overpopulation.
Education
Help children and adults understand the responsibilities and lifelong commitment of pet ownership.
Adoption
Connect animals in foster care with people prepared to provide safe and permanent homes.
A community effort from rescue to home.
Animals need help

Fosters provide care

We share their stories

Families come together
Applications and conversations help move animals toward safe, permanent placements.
Serving southeastern North Carolina.
Our foster network and volunteers have served a multi-county area that includes Columbus, Bladen, Robeson, and New Hanover counties. Because animals live in private foster homes, meetings with adoptable pets are arranged rather than handled through a walk-in shelter.
That model makes foster families and volunteers essential to everything we do.
